In an interconnected world, knowing a second language gives you a special advantage. The distinctive and exciting feature of the German Studies major at Heidelberg is the Junior Year Abroad.
All students who major in German Studies at the ‘Berg spend their junior year at The Ruprecht Karl University of Heidelberg in Germany, one of the most prestigious universities in the world. It’s an opportunity not only to hone your language skills, but to immerse yourself in the rhythms of everyday life in the culture where the language is spoken.
Because most of the German Studies major requirements are completed during the year abroad, there is plenty of time during your remaining years on our campus in Ohio to complete a second major in another discipline that interests you.
We also offer a minor in German. Small classes on our home campus provide a welcome opportunity for lots of interaction between you, your professor and your classmates. Are you new to the German language? Don’t worry. Heidelberg’s program is designed for students from all ability levels.

Heidelberg’s German Club (or Deutsch Klub) focuses on enjoying and learning about German culture. The club has taken trips to the Chicago Christmas Market, German Village in Columbus, and Oktober Fest in Cincinnati. They also host movie nights, outside speakers, and German cooking nights.
One thing that was immediately evident to me when I first visited Heidelberg was that the faculty members are fully invested in student learning and take an interest in our continued academic success.
