Lori Akins teaches flute and directs the Flute Choir at Heidelberg. She is also on the faculties at Cedarville and Wittenberg universities. In addition, Ms. Akins is a recitalist on the faculty performing artist series at each institution. She is principal flutist with the Springfield Symphony, and flutist and piccoloist with the Columbus Symphony and the Ohio Valley Symphony. Ms. Akins performs with the Heidelberg Faculty Woodwind Quintet, the Springfield Symphony Woodwind Quartet and Quintet and various other chamber ensembles. Ms. Akins is a frequent recitalist, chamber musician and free-lance flutist. She has presented and performed at National Flute Association conventions. She is in demand as an adjudicator and clinician and also maintains a private flute studio. Ms. Akins received her master’s degree in flute performance and her bachelor’s degree in music education from The Ohio State University. She is past president of the Central Ohio Flute Association and was for many years chairman of their Young Artist Flute Competition. Ms. Akins has served as secretary and general competitions coordinator for the National Flute Association.
