Thaddeus Archer

Thaddeus Archer grew up in California part of a large musical family. He started on piano at 5 years old but changed to trumpet at 8, inspired by an offstage trumpet solo performed by a member of his older sister's youth orchestra. Music quickly became something that was fun, and opened up doors to great experiences. Playing in school ensembles, singing/acting in local theatre projects, as well as being a member in a youth choir and youth orchestra let Thaddeus, by the time he had graduated high school, go on summer tours of Canada, England, Germany and Austria.

While attending California State University Long Beach, Thaddeus participated in every ensemble (orchestra, wind ensemble, brass ensemble, brass quintet, big band, early music and new music) he could with his trumpet, as well as several area young professional training orchestras and music festivals each summer. He was the winner of the concerto competition for both the orchestra and wind ensemble, and he graduated Magma Cum Laude also receiving the faculty award for Outstanding Brass Graduate. Thaddeus moved to Bloomington, Ind., in 2001 to attend Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He was awarded an Associate Instructor scholarship in 2002 and was responsible for teaching trumpet to interested non-music majors. Thaddeus won the brass concerto competition two times and also performed as soloist in the New Music Ensemble.

He participated in several prestigious summer music festivals in the United States as well as Europe and played as a regular member of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. Thaddeus came to Toledo, Ohio, at the end of 2007 to accept the full-time position of Associate Principal/ 3rd trumpet with the Toledo Symphony. He was featured as soloist in 2010 on the Brandenburg Concerto No 2. Thaddeus is the instructor of trumpet at Toledo University and Heidelberg University. He lives in Perrysburg with his wife, soprano Carol Dusdieker, and two cats, Maurice and Callas.
